This extraordinary fabric is part of the core materials of the House. The forgotten techniques of the  upcycled embroidered household linen are saved from oblivion and regenerated into unique, transcending garments evoking soft, delicate and sensual imagery. All these one-of-a-kind pieces are filled with history through their embroideries, all smoothly placed to highlight the beauty of this rare fabric. The white tones of the pillowcases are also dyed in black to play with the ceremonial references.

All the cotton Marine Serre sources for Borderline is GOTS-certified — this world-leading textile processing standard chiming with the house’s own well-known commitment to protecting the planet. In terms of the silhouettes across these ranges, we wanted to offer a wide range of everyday styles that are directly inspired by the world of sportswear. Our Moon Logo Jersey lines come in a range of traditional colours (white, black and grey, but in most cases lilac too) spun out across t-shirts, tanks and dresses, as well as underwear. These garments are finished in the classic way familiar from sportwear garments, with our Moon Logo in raised embroidery just below the neckline. Some of the Recycled Cotton Jerseys (lilac and grey) feature our MS Sport logo — a print moon with Marine Serre embroidered above, and we have also expanded our palette with seasonal colours such as red and blue, bearing a Gradient All Over Moon print.

Draped Statue Deep Brown

Trompe l’oeil prints have been one of the tricks in Marine Serre’s playbook since the beginning. The inspiration for this line came from the almost impossibly perfect bodies of statues — think Michaelangelo’s David — which we have recreated as a digital print on our recycled technical jersey. The jersey mesh creates a strong chiaroscuro effect across the garments, as black shadows deepen at the sides of the torso, neck, arms and hems. The prominent abdominal muscles (no gym membership required) add to the sporty-yet-artistic effect, with digitally printed scarves ‘draped’ diagonally across the bust, arms or (in the case of the catsuit and leggings) the crotch and legs. A seasonal tube dress echoes the top half of the crewneck and catsuit but adds a sari-style skirt with florals and netting to underscore the travel cues of the wider collection. The men’s high-neck top also picks up on the netting and is a more minimal club-ready design.

Marine Serre first showed upcycled tote bags in the 
F/W 2023 Collection Rising Shelter, which made 
waves with its column-shaped cages of discarded 
clothing. Inspired by the designer’s optimism despite 
rapid climate change, this range begins life with the 
careful selection of cotton totes according to their 
quality and the appeal of their multicultural patterns. 
Reimagined as Marine Serre Couture pieces, their 
sui generis graphics leap out from the ecru fabric, 
tapping into the longing for travel that underpins 
the entire collection, as each carries different places 
and stories within it. Unisex garments are inflected 
by streetwear styles. There’s a bomber jacket with a 
generous volume, alongside wide workwear pants, 
button-up and bowling shirts, and tailored shorts. A 
standout trench features the tote’s handles hanging 
down its back. For women, the bustier present in 
the Regenerated Denim range introduces a pleasing 
clash between the material and the sensual bodycon design. Pieces feature a printed Marine Serre 
logo and, owing to the upcycling approach, each is 
one of a kind.
